open to suggestions

I just finished a really good book.

It engrossed me...however it has also left me a bit disturbed and shaken.

The book was largely centered on abuse, some of that towards children. As a new Mommy I now realize I just don't have the heart for that sort of story telling anymore. I feel raw and exposed.

I want to go hug my baby.

Fairly inconvenient since she is, you know, sleeping.

So here is where you come in. Recommend!

Something fluffy. Like Bison Frise fluffy.
Perhaps with a fairy tale ending? Where all the children are neatly tucked in their beds at night by their loving parents. They are told how special they are, how prized and how beautiful. All these lovely well adjusted youngsters grow as individuals while being nourished inside and out by their family, friends and communities.

They know they are safe. They know they are protected and valued.

Maybe there is a literary musical number?

Giving new meaning to a 'book' number...Ha!

Anyone know a book like that?

Anything close?

Hmm, well it doesn't quite end with sunshine and rainbows, but it is a sweet story. Makes you all tingly inside. Do you like dogs? If so, I suggest Marley and Me. It's an easy read with a sweet story. I cried a few times, but not disturbing tears.

Hmmm I don't think I can help you much. I'm currently reading a book on Feng shui. oh and a fabulous Dutch book called Troll. It's kind of a messed up book though. *lol*

I'm not a happy-ending kind of gal. I think Time Traveler's Wife is probably the best thing I've read in years. Not a super-happy ending, but so worth the sadness.

Okay. I should be able to do this, right? Except I'm not sure such a book exists. The closest I can come up with are three authors I haven't actually read (my literary tastes are pretty dark), but who I often recommend to clean-reading grandmas at the store. They are: Lorna Landvik (supposedly hilarious), Fannie Flagg (I used an excerpt from one of her books in a class, and it was amusing), and Barbara Delinsky. If you like The Wizard of Oz, you might also enjoy Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Good luck!

The only thing I can think of is "Goodnight Moon" - I'm guessing you wanted something more grown-up, huh?

Okay I read her, it is a quick read and the books are always happy http://www.debbiemacomber.com/ I especially like Miss Miracle. That book had a happy all over it:O)

Oh, and Jan Karon. (I've actually been thinking about this off and on for 24 hours. How sad. But you're like a captive customer--if I forget to recommend a book, it's impossible for you to have left the store. No matter how hard you try.)

Sorry I can't help. Will you tell us which book you just read?
